Location

Located on the banks of the Swan River in Perth the capital city of Australia's largest State -- Western Australia -- the University is the State's longest established tertiary institution.

As a center for learning, it combines the refined traditions of the world's old and great universities with the esprit and excitement of study and research in the 1990s. The University, which opened in 1913, has acquired an international reputation for excellence and enterprise. It is regarded as one of Australia's top research institutions, attracting researchers of world standing across the range of disciplines, with international leaders in many diverse fields..

The University has a strong research culture. Recently it attracted more competitive research funding -- on a per capita basis of staff involved in research -- than any other Australian University. This strength in research makes the University especially appealing to students from across Australia, and from neighboring Asian nations, Europe and America.

The high caliber of its teaching staff, state-of-the-art research facilities, well-equipped lecture theatres and laboratories -- plus a superb range of arts venues that accommodate some of the city's most celebrated cultural events -- provide a learning environment that stimulates both creativity and innovation. From its extensive art collection to its wealth of sporting facilities, the University seeks to meet the cultural and recreational needs of students, staff and the broader community.

Cost and Included Benefits
Students receiving exchange placements at UWA will pay tuition at MSU in the same amount as if studying in Bozeman. Students who are not awarded an exchange placement at UWA will need to pay the "study abroad" fee to attend UWA. (Visit the International Opportunities Resource Center for more information about this fee.) Each student is responsible for his/her room and board in Australia as well as trans-Pacific travel expenses. Remember to plan for extra expenses such as internal travel and personal spending money as well as for unexpected changes in the exchange rate.

Financial Aid
Most financial aid may be available for study abroad at UWA. Additional costs for study at UWA (e.g. travel to and from the study site) may be used in calculating student's financial aid package. Students are responsible to apply to the Office of Financial Aid.

Application
Applications are available in the Office of International Programs at 400 Culbertson Hall.

Deadline
Applications are due in the Office of International Programs on March 1 to study at UWS the following July or October 1 to study at UWA the following February. In Australia the academic year begins in February.
