As the oldest university in Korea, Yonsei University was established in 1885. Its spacious, quiet, well-wooded campus is located just 20 minutes away from downtown Seoul, the economic, political, and cultural center of Korea. Yonsei has 16 graduate schools, 18 colleges, and 111 subsidiary institutions. Yonsei is the leading institution of international education in Korea with over 420 partner universities in 42 countries around the world. Yonsei is regarded as the most forward looking, internationalized, and comprehensive university in Korea.

Academic Program

Yonsei is particularly popular among international students who major in Business, Economics, Asian (Korean) Studies, Science, Engineering, and Political Science & Law (International Relations) as well as Architecture.

The Department of Architectural Engineering strives to educate its students as architects and engineers who are capable of carrying out the various professional activities of creating an architectural environment. Yonsei's continuous technical and theoretical research has established the university as one of the leaders in the architectural field.

Design studios, environmental labs, structural engineering labs and photo rooms are available for students. Besides the laboratories, various research labs are operated to facilitate the research activities such as Architectural Design Lab, Architectural Environment Lab, Building Evaluation Lab, Architectural Structure Lab, Building Design and Technology Lab, Architectural History Lab, Urban Planning Lab construction, Engineering & management Lab and Building Science Lab.

Language of Instruction

Many courses are taught in English so students who do not speak fluently in Korean can take courses in English.

Eligibility

The exchange program is open to all disciplines and majors. Students in the Architecture major who have completed one full academic year of university level work with at least a 3.0 GPA are also eligible.

Academic Credit

Credit will be awarded at MSU for all courses taken and passed at Yonsei University. The student's academic advisor at MSU, in consultation with the Office of International Programs will determine how these credits will apply to degree course requirements. However, successful study at Yonsei satisfies MSU's Multicultural/Global core curriculum requirement. Students are urged to work closely with their advisor and the Office of International Programs prior to departure to plan a course of studies which will maintain steady progress toward their degree.

Location

Yonsei University has a 250-acre campus in the lovely wooded hills of western Seoul, 20 minutes from downtown by bus or subway. Seoul offers museums, palaces, libraries, theatres, and department stores. Yonsei University's location provides a particularly advantageous position from which to study the changing culture, economics, and politics of the East Asian region.
