Workshop on Active teaching and Learning

2006 Thailand Program Participants

This intensive, two-week workshop will offer participants a serious educational experience that simulates the processes and the benefits of a longer, doctoral-level program of study. This workshop will feature visits to local schools and university classrooms, seminars and hands-on learning over a variety of topics, and an “Action Research” project.

In addition to classroom instruction, program participants will attend a professional educator's conference, visit the world famous Museum of the Rockies and go to Yellowstone National Park, one of the world's most geologically diverse and famous natural landscapes. While on campus, program participants will also have full use of the MSU library, exercise facilitates, and computer labs.

Goals and Objectives
During this two week seminar participants will:

  1. undergo an initial, intensive immersion in the professional, academic, and social life of educators in the United States;
  2. observe and participate in American classrooms at the K-12 and College levels, especially in situations that model active learning and various models of teaching;
  3. conduct an Action Research Project to improve some aspect of their own practices in curriculum design and instructional practice;
  4. aquire greater proficiency in the English Language through intensive language instruction;
  5. acquire new knowledge and skills in the areas of academic research, distance learning
    technologies, action research methods, and instructional technologie;
  6. engage in systematic study of teaching methods and instructional designs that reflect current insights from Piaget, Vygotsky, Montessori, and the research in brain science and cognitive science
