Secure File Storage
Secure file servers provide a safe way to store sensitive information such as social security numbers, student records, or other personally identifiable data on the network. Storing sensitive information on individual computers or on off-campus servers like Google Docs is not appropriate and may be a violation of FERPA regulation.
The IT Center provides a secure file server known as knox.montana.edu for the storage and sharing of sensitive data. Appropriate and reasonable use of Knox is free for MSU-Bozeman Faculty and Staff. Contact the IT Center Helpdesk at 994-1777 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a Knox folder.
