Software updates are often released because the developer has discovered a vulnerability in their program that could allow an unauthorized user to install malicious software, steal data, or even take control of the unpatched computer. If you don‘t install an update for the software in question, whether it be an operating system update or an update for 3rd party software like Adobe Flash, you remain exposed to the vulnerability.
