MSU8021X Quick Setup: Vista

Follow the instructions below to configure Microsoft Vista OS to connect MSU8021X, MSU's secure wireless network. If you would like more detailed instructions go to:  http://www.montane.edu/itcenter/wireless/vista.php.

IMPORTANT: If you are a new student and have not yet changed/set your MSU Windows Domain Account password or it has expired, please go to My Profile to set it before continuing.

  1. Click the Network menu icon icon located in the lower right corner of your screen (fig. 2).

  3. Click "Wireless networks are available" (fig. 3).

  5. The "Connect to a network" window opens (fig. 4).
  6. Select MSU8021X and click the "Connect" button.

  8. The "Additional log on information is required..." window opens (fig. 5).
  9. Click "Enter/select additional log on information".

  11. The "Enter Credentials" window opens.
  12. Enter your MSU Domain Account user name and password" (fig. 6).
  13. NOTE: Your MSU Windows Domain Account user name is generally in the form of first.last. It is also what you use to log in to computers in the IT Center student computer labs on campus.

  15. The "Additional log on information is required..." window opens again (fig. 5).
  16. Click "Enter/select additional log on information".
  17. The "Validate Server Certificate" window opens (fig. 7).
  18. Click the "OK" button.

  20. The "Successfully connected to a network" window opens.
  21. Check both boxes and click the "Close" button (fig. 8).

  26. You should now be connected to MSU8021X and see the window below.(fig. 10).

  28. When successfully connected your network icon in the lower right of your screen will like this: Desktop icon showing connected status.
