Shimo VPN Client Available for macOS Sierra Users

Dear Faculty, Staff & Students,

Prior to the release of macOS Sierra on September 20, we notified the MSU community of compatibility issues the new OS had with some software and specifically the Virtual Private Network protocol, PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol).  A virtual private network connection is necessary for anyone who would like to connect to the MSU network from off campus. For more information about VPN clients, visit http://www.montana.edu/itcenter/computing/desktop/vpn.html

To remedy the VPN issue while we are working on a long term solution, we have purchased licenses for Shimo, a Virtual Private Network client that enables the PPTP protocol.

Faculty and Staff - A limited number of Shimo licenses are available for faculty and staff use. If you had or need to upgrade to macOS Sierra and require VPN access, please complete the Shimo request form located at http://www.montana.edu/itcenter/purchase/shimo/request.html.

Students – Licenses are available for students through the Shimo Student licensing agreement. To download and install the Shimo client go to https://www.shimovpn.com/students. Once there, complete the request form and be sure to select Montana State University in step 2. Follow the tutorial (in step 4) to configure Shimo to connect to MSU’s VPN.
