Attn: Montana State University Windows Users,

Since Apple's recent discontinued support of QuickTime 7 for Windows (QT), exploits have been reported on Windows computers with QT installed (US-CERT Alert TA16-105A). Due to this, QuickTime must be removed from Windows machines as the security vulnerability will remain as long as it is installed.

This vulnerability does not impact Mac users.

Removing QuickTime from MSU-Owned Windows Computers

  • If you are a staff member with an MSU-owned Windows computer with LANDesk installed, no action is required. ITC will remove QuickTime from your computer via LANDesk, MSU’s asset management software.
  • If you do not have or are unsure if you have LANDesk installed on your computer, please contact the ITC Service Desk (994-1777 | helpdesk@montana.edu) for assistance to ensure QuickTime is removed.

We anticipate that the QuickTime removal from MSU-owned Windows computers will be completed by October 6, 2016.

NOTE: ITC will not remove QuickTime from any MSU-owned computer that has Adobe Creative Cloud or TechSmith (Camtasia) Relay because some specific features of these programs may require QuickTime to function. More information will be sent as it becomes available.
