Read this Important Information Before Installing
the Windows 10 Anniversary Update

MSU Community,

On August 2, Microsoft released the Windows 10 Anniversary Update*. Following the release, McAfee reported incompatibility issues with the upgrade, which included the †McAfee Enterprise product that MSU provides to campus. Due to these issues, the update will not be released to MSU-owned, domain-connected computers and no action is required by users of these computers.

Anyone who has downloaded MSU McAfee software on a home computer running Windows 10 is advised against installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, if possible. Follow the steps below to defer installing the upgrade or to solve compatibility issues if the upgrade has already been installed on your computer.

Instructions: To defer upgrade or resolve compatibility issues
on home computers with Windows 10 and MSU’s McAfee installed:

NOTE: if you are using Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 no action is required.

  1. Determine which version of Windows 10 you have:
    Tap the Windows key once > type: Winver > hit enter.
  2. Follow instructions for your version of Windows 10:

    • Windows 10 Professional, Education or Enterprise:
      Defer the update by going to: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options. Check the box next to Defer Update.
    • Windows 10 Home users:
      Please contact the ITC Service Desk for instructions.

‡Already installed the update?
If you have already installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on a personal computer that has MSU’s McAfee installed and are experiencing issues, please contact the ITC Service Desk for instructions to resolve issue.
