Apple macOS High Sierra Root Password Flaw

Dear MSU Mac Computer Users,

Apple advised yesterday that a major flaw has been identified in Apple's newest computer operating system, macOS High Sierra (10.13) . This flaw allows someone to gain administrative capabilities to your computer, without a password. To find out if your Mac is running High Sierra (10.13) click the Apple menu > About.

Apple has issued a software update to address this flaw. The patch, Security Update 2017-001, should be available through the Updates tab in the Mac App Store (open Apple menu > select App Store).

Please take the appropriate action now to ensure that you have installed this update to protect you. This flaw only affects Mac computers running macOS High Sierra.

If you need any assistance please contact the UIT Service Desk immediately (994-1777 or helpdesk@montana.edu).

Thank you,

University Information Technology
