SpyWare and MalWare

Phishing Scams

MSU continues to see an increase in fraudulent "Phishing" emails. Phishing refers to the act of posing as legitimate businesses using email to "fish" for bank account information, credit card numbers, social security numbers, and other sensitive account information. We have seen bogus messages from such entities as PayPal, Sterling Bank, eBay, and many others. In general, do not reply to email messages requesting any personal information, even if it looks legitimate. Instead, contact the organization in question via a known phone number or open a new browser with the correct address if you require assistance.
