About our department... In support of the Montana State University mission, the Information Technology Center (ITC) promotes, develops, delivers, and facilitates the use of information technology services and resources. ITC manages, operates, and supports Montana State University's multilevel, distributed computation and information systems. The department is organized into four groups: Administrative Systems, Infrastructure Services & Operations, Planning and Programs Office & Business Office, and User Support Services.

 
Duties and
Responsibilities

About this position... The person in this position is the Network Analyst with primary responsibility for the Montana State University enterprise wireless network. Of the four divisions within ITC, the Infrastructure Services & Operations Division supports the campus network backbone, Wide Area Network (WAN) connections, Local Area Network (LAN) wired and wireless infrastructure, and the State and Universities of Montana Multi-protocol Network (SUMMITnet) cooperatively with the state and other educational units.

Duties include configuring, deploying and troubleshooting all networking equipment. This position will be responsible for the deployment and management of the MSU wireless network. This position will also configure and monitor switches, routers, and other wired and wireless network devices.

Required
Qualifications
1.   Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or technically related field plus two years of recent, full-time (or part-time equivalent) network experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
2.   Demonstrated experience deploying and managing enterprise-level wireless infrastructure.
3.   Demonstrated working knowledge and application of network management standards, systems testing procedures and data access methods. Please describe experiences related to the following areas: a) Routing protocols.
b) Client/server technology.
c) Network management tools and procedures.
d) Competence in understanding and applying data networking standards such as Ethernet and protocols such as TCP/IP.
e) Familiarity with operating systems, such as UNIX and Windows.
4.   Demonstrated working knowledge of networking technology theory, principles and practices. (Please list examples.)
5.   Demonstrated experience configuring and managing Routers and Switches.
6.   Demonstrated experience configuring and managing Wireless controllers and access points.
7.   Demonstrated experience working in a production environment where system reliability and availability are critical.
 
Preferred
Qualifications
1.   Demonstrated experience installing category 5, category 6, single mode fiber and multimode fiber network wiring and equipment.
2.   Demonstrated experience working with network vendors, technical & sales staff in order to determine hardware specifications and system configurations.

Requirements
1.   In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
2.   The person in this position must be capable of installing equipment in low or high temperature, noisy telecommunication closets.
Equipment may be located in crawl spaces, attics, and other confined or limited access spaces in some cases, equipment must be manipulated while standing on a ladder or ledge.
3.   The person in this position must be capable of standing for extended periods, and lifting 20 pounds over head.
4.   This position requires occasional on-call availability and after hours support.
