Overview

The role of the Health Professions Advising office is to facilitate advising, networking, and educational planning for undergraduate, graduate and MSU alumni students pursuing careers in the health professions, including medical, dental, physician assistant, pharmacy, and others. The staff of the Health Professions Advising office provides guidance to students as they explore career options, obtain professional school prerequisites, and complete the professional school application process. This individual will serve as the point person for the Office of Health Professions Advising and will represent the office to the MSU community, medical schools, alumni and current and prospective students. This person will maintain calendars, organize and monitor confidential student files for application to medical schools and other graduate programs in the health professions, and participate in planning and organizing meetings and conferences.

 
Duties and
Responsibilities

• Responds to inquiries and requests for information
• Schedules and coordinates a wide variety of programs, meetings, conferences, and maintains Director’s calendar
• Coordinates applications for induction into honor society and annual initiation ceremony
• Organizes and maintains applications for students and their admission to the Post-baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program and the M.S. in Health Sciences Program
• Provides support for student pre-health clubs
• Maintains office web site and other publications, as necessary
• Assists Director to plan and implement efficiency of office procedures, compile statistics; and facilitate clinical observation opportunities.
This person must have the ability to work independently, and must be able to establish priorities and take initiative. Excellent administrative and computer skills, including word processing and database management (required); Windows XP, MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, Power Point), Dreamweaver, and internet interface.

 
Required
Qualifications
1.   Three years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) progressively responsible administrative and accounting work experience with an emphasis on customer service, budgeting, fiscal management, office management, and supervisory duties or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
2.   Demonstrated competence maintaining records with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail and maintaining confidentiality.
3.   Demonstrated competence organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability to changing priorities while maintaining a positive, effective, and professional attitude.
4.   Demonstrated competence using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, email and internet. Microsoft Office software preferred (please list equipment and software used).
5.   Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
 
Preferred
Qualifications
1.   Two years of post-secondary education.
2.   Experience using the SCT Banner system.
3.   Knowledge of MSU procedures and policies or previous experience working in a higher education setting.
4.   Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles, practices, and techniques including accounts payable and receivable.
