University Police is a technical law enforcement and security agency for the MSU campus. The Department is responsible for the enforcement of campus rules and regulations as well as Federal, State, and Local laws. The Department maintains the parking enforcement program, and provides security for all persons and property on the campus. University Police is a 24 hours/day, 7 days/week law enforcement operation.

Under supervision of the Communication Systems Supervisor, the person in this position performs a variety of clerical and routine administrative tasks in support of the department. Duties include: maintaining a public safety answering point (911 emergency line); operating police radio and dispatching calls as needed; filing and maintaining a daily computer log of police activities; maintaining and recording daily financial statements; answering telephone, handling incoming emergency calls; accepting payments for parking permits, citations, and verifying the accuracy of all payments; balancing transactions; handling complaints and processing traffic appeals; typing various forms and memos; performing data entry; greeting the public; performing general office duties; responding to upset customers (for example, an individual may have received parking citations and had their vehicle impounded); performing related duties as required.

1.   One year post-secondary education plus two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) general office experience which includes responding to questions and concerns from the public regarding policies and procedures, detailed record keeping responsibilities, and multi-tasking or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Describe specific education and experience as it relates to the above.
2.   Demonstrated ability to effectively handle emergency situations. Describe how you personallyt handled specific emergency situations.
3.   Demonstrated competence performing data entry using a personal computer. Please list equipment and software used, and types of data maintained.
4.   Demonstrated competence maintaining accurate filing and record keeping systems. Describe specific filing and record keeping experience.
5.   Demonstrated ability establishing and maintaining good public relations. The person in this position must be able to effectively and professionally deal with angry and difficult individuals. Please list specific examples relating to how you handled difficult customer service situations.
6.   Demonstrated competence organizing and prioritizing multiple, simultaneous work assignments, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability to changing priorities, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. Describe specific experience.
7.   Demonstrated competence reconciling cash register drawer and tapes.
8.   Demonstrated competence operating various office equipment such as computers, copier, calculator, credit card machine, fax machine. Please list office equipment used.
1.   One year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) law enforcement related experience which includes dispatching experience and using police radios and walkie-talkies. Describe specific experience.
2.   Montana CJIN/NCIC certification and attendance at the Public Safety Communicator Basic Course at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in Helena, MT.
The Successful
Candidate Will

The successful candidate will also have the ability to: effectively operate work related equipment; maintain, process, and verify information iwth a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail; communicate effectively with employees and the public, both in person and over the phone; establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and the public; represent University Police and its programs to others in a professional and courteous manner.

1.   In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
2.   This position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays with regularity.
3.   This position requires successful completion of the CJIN/NCIC Operator I certification within five months of hire and attendance at the Public Safety Communicator Basic Course at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in Helena, MT.
