Facilities Services is responsible for all repairs and maintenance of building interiors and exteriors, landscape and grounds, building utilities, heating and refrigeration, mail services, motor pool, campus custodial services, work control, and campus stores, as well as the administration, accounting and information technology functions necessary to support these areas. Auxiliary Services encompasses Residence Life, University Food Services and Event Services. Residence life is where living and learning come together to provide students with a “home-like” environment as they navigate their academic career. There are 9 residence halls and 3 residential dining areas. Sports Facilities and the Strand Union building make up Events Services. Sports Facilities is responsible for the management of the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, Bobcat Stadium, Hoseaus Fitness Center, Shroyer Gymnasium and the Bobcat Tennis Center. The Strand Union Building provides campus meeting rooms and ballrooms as well as use of the Recreation Center and many food service areas. More information on Auxiliary Services can be found here.

Duties and

Custodians provide cleaning maintenance service for MSU. Primary emphasis is on cleaning public areas, including restrooms, carpeted and hard-surface floor care, trash removal, room set-ups and other related duties. Custodians may work individually or on a team in an assigned area. Duties include, but may not be limited to: scrubbing, mopping, washing, sealing, disinfecting and polishing hard surface floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpeted floors; dusting and polishing furniture; washing windows and mirrors; polishing bathroom and shower fixtures; emptying trash receptacles to dumpsters; replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; handling commercial (industrial) cleaning chemicals; moving supplies up and down stairs; maintaining good communication channels with supervisors and coworkers and performing related duties as required. Please note that responsibilities will vary slightly between home departments.

1.   In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
2.   Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and move items (such as stacking chairs, folding tables, setting up portable stages, carrying floor sealer, etc.) up and down stairs.
3.   Must be able to walk up and down stairs; go up and down step ladder; stand for extended periods of time; and grip handles on cleaning equipment.
4.   Custodians will have exposure to cleaning solutions.

**Shifts vary from department to department. Please indicate shifts you are interested in on the application.

**A valid Montana Driver's license will be required for float positions.

  • Facilities Services:
    4:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m., Monday – Friday
    11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., Sunday – Thursday
  • Residence Life:
    8:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
    4:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m., Sunday - Thursday and Monday - Friday
  • Sports Facilities (shifts are varying schedules 7 days a week):
    9:30p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
    4:00pm – 12:30 a.m.
  • Strand Union:
    10:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., Sunday - Thursday
