The Department of Microbiology & Immunology is one of the most relevant, dynamic and exciting disciplines in the biological sciences. Our department's mission is to train undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students for careers in microbiology - through excellence in teaching, research, and service.

Duties and

The Administrative Associate III in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology is the first-contact for undergraduate and graduate student support services, and faculty support. The person in this position interacts daily with the Department Chair, faculty, MSU staff, students, and the public, and should possess strong communication and customer service skills. Cyclical responsibilities include organizing and maintaining paper student files and Degreeworks records, coordinating catalog revisions, course scheduling, and course evaluations. The Administrative Associate III will work closely with the Registrar, the Bookstore and the Graduate School to accomplish these duties. This position is also responsible for updating and maintaining the Department website, developing the annual newsletter, and assisting with event planning.

1.   Two years of post-secondary education plus three years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) progressively responsible administrative experience based in a busy office setting providing high quality administrative support and customer service or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
2.   Demonstrated competence organizing files and maintaining records with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail, while dealing with constant interruptions.
3.   Successful experience working in a busy office setting and exercising adaptability to changing priorities.
4.   Demonstrated excellent communication and customer service skills, and competence interpreting and explaining detailed information, both verbally and in writing, to a wide variety of constituents.
5.   Experience organizing and planning events, meeting deadlines, and independently organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments.
6.   Demonstrated experience composing and editing documents, including a newsletter.
1.   Experience using SCT Banner and Degreeworks.
2.   Experience with web page monitoring and maintenance.
The Successful
Candidate Will

The successful candidate will also have the following abilities: organize and prioritize multiple work assignments, meet deadlines, exercise adaptability to changing priorities; maintain confidentiality of information and maintain records with high degree of accuracy, and close attention to details; communicate effectively with employees, students and the public, both in person and over the phone; establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and the public; work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team; and represent the Department and MSU in a professional and courteous manner.
