The Student Health Service provides medical, dental, and health promotion services to students at Montana State University in Bozeman.

Duties and

The Custodian will be assigned to clean various areas of the Student Health Service facility including floors (carpeted and tile), walls, ceilings, windows, furniture/equipment, restrooms, hallways, stairways, entryways, lobbies, offices, exam rooms, and other clinical spaces to maintain a professional appearance and prevent the spread of infection. The custodian also removes trash and infectious waste as well as other duties as assigned.

1.   Three months experience working as a custodian.
2.   Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move items (such as chairs and folding tables).
3.   Ability to walk up and down stairs, work on feet, and grip handles on cleaning utensils such as mops.
4.   Experience with use of simple cleaning solutions.
5.   Effectiveness at communicating with co-workers.
6.   Ability to follow standard instructions.
7.   Ability to adapt to changing job duties.
8.   Ability to represent the Student Health Service in a professional and courteous manner.
9.   Attention to detail and cleanliness.

The Successful
Candidate Will

The successful candidate will also have the following abilities : The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers in a team oriented environment; demonstrate a prior attendance record which did not adversely affect work performance; ability to correctly follow instructions.

1.   In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
2.   Physical requirements include use of cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, etc. in addition to physical labor involved in cleaning a health facility. Trash bags can weigh up to 20 lbs. This individual will be using commercial cleaning solutions with appropriate safeguards. This individual may also handle medical waste, again with appropriate safeguards.


  • Academic Year: (4 p.m. – 8 p.m. M-F; alternate weeks 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. M-Thurs, 4 p.m.- 6 p.m. Fri, 12 noon-2 p.m. Sat)
  • Summer: (4 p.m. – 8 p.m. M-F)
