Bozeman is located in the beautiful Gallatin Valley, 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park.


Montana Shakespeare in the Parks seeks highly organized, detail-oriented applicants for the position of Production Manager. The PM is responsible for the booking and scheduling of three significant tours, including two comprehensive education tours, an extensive summer tour which runs through sixty different communities across a five state region, and additional expanded programing. In collaboration with the Artistic Director the PM will oversee all aspects of production including hiring and supervision of all production personnel, working with directors and designers to ensure balance of artistic quality, facilitate and schedule concept meetings, create annual schedules, implement due dates and deadlines for all designers, and coordinate public relations events and materials. Ideal candidate must have excellent computer skills, a strong understanding of advanced scheduling, a broad understanding in all aspects of technical theatre, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to manage shifting competing priorities, exercise good judgment and discretion and maintain a positive attitude in stressful environments.

Duties and

  • Manage all technical staff, including the Technical Director, Properties Master, Costume Shop Manager, Stage Management, and Sound/Electrics Manager.
  • Make contact with tour coordinators, book, and schedule three tours, including 50 schools for Montana Shakespeare in the Schools, 55 schools for Montana Shakes, and 70 communities for Montana Shakespeare in the Parks.
  • Facilitate clear communication throughout the production process, and act as liaison among directors, designers, and administration.
  • Develop, implement and manage annual production schedules.
  • Develop and supervise all production budgets.
  • Approve all production department purchasing.

  • Manage and develop all production meetings and facilitate all technical rehearsals and previews.
  • Oversee inventory of scenery, costume, and sound equipment.
  • Manage and maintain and all storage units, including budgeting the annual cost of storage.
  • Manage the operation and budget for all Montana Shakespeare in the Parks scenic, properties, and costume rentals.
  • Schedule and oversee all tour related logistics including housing, site visitation, and company manager supervision.
  • Manage and schedule all production meetings and facilitate all technical rehearsals and previews.
  • Act as marketing and pubic relations liaison, including working with communications personnel, graphic artists, and event coordinators.

1.   Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Production, Theatre, Fine Arts, or professional equivalent.
2.   Minimum three years experience as a PM or as a member of a production management team.
3.   Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Office, and knowledge of industry specific software.
4.   Thorough knowledge of all areas of theatrical production.
5.   Proficiency in advanced scheduling and deadline practices.
6.   Public Relation and Marketing experience.
1.   MFA or Professional Equivalent in Theatre Production or Management.
2.   3-5 years experience in a management position at a regional theatre.
3.   Advanced experience in overseeing production calendars and schedules.
4.   Experience in website management, industry specific software, and sound/lighting equipment.
5.   Company management experience.
The Successful
Candidate Will

The successful candidate will also have the following abilities :

  • Ability to work under pressure on many projects with people of varying experience levels.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal communication, diplomatic and leadership skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, assertive, self-driven, and able to maintain a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, evening and/or weekends.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, and maintain a positive attitude in stressful environments.
  • Ability to multi-task, have excellent computer skills, and demonstrate strong management skills.

1.   In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
2.   Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana driver's license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points, commercial driver’s license preferred).
3.   Ability to lift 40lbs., climb ladders, and perform manual labor on an occasional, as-needed basis with or without accommodations.
4.   Night and weekend hours are required as needed.
