- October 14, 2009 - The Stones Have Memories: The Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall. A multimedia presentation featuring David Large, Kelly Gorham, Elizabeth Croy and Julie Gosswiller. Sponsored by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the MSU Humanities Institute.
- October 12, 2009 - An Evening with Nicholas Kristof, two time Pulitzer Prize-winner and humanitarian. Sponsored by ASMSU, MSU Leadership Institute, Office of the President, MSU Humanities Institute, Parent Family Association, Bozeman Daily Chronicle and Lori and Scott Lawson.
- April 9, 2009 - Dr. E. O. Wilson, Harvard University, presented the Biodiversity Technology Pioneer Awards to honorees whose scientific discoveries, inventions or work has helped advance the biodiversity of life on Earth. Free public forum was held at the Montana State University Brick Breeden Fieldhouse with Dr. Wilson, the honorees and special guests. Dr. Wilson was awarded the Presidential Medal for Global and Visionary Leadership at the public forum. This event was co-sponsored by The American Computer Museum, College of Engineering, College of Letters & Science, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and the NSF EPSCoR Program. Read more...
- March 26-28, 2009 - Mendelssohn in Montana, A Humanistic and Artistic 200 Years Commemoration. The symposium featured lectures by musicologists and historians, including R. Larry Todd, one of the country's foremost Mendelssohn scholars. There were eight scholarly sessions and four concerts. Read more...
- January 21, 2009 - As part of its celebration of the Lincoln and Darwin Bicentennial, the Montana Humanities Institute, in cooperation with the Teaching American History Program, hosted a lecture by Dr. Frank Goodyear, assistant curator of photography at the National Portrait Gallery, on "Abraham Lincoln in Historic Photographs." - April 17, 2008 - Lecture by Shirin Ebadi, a 2003 Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Ms. Ebadi stood up to conservative clerics while pioneering efforts to improve women's and children's rights in Iran. Her refusal to be silenced and willingness to address sensitive political issues have earned her international acclaim. She is the first Iranian and the first Muslim woman to receive the Nobel prize. Dr. Weissman, a Great Falls native, has a world-wide reputation for stem cell research. He is the director of the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Stanford University. - October 3, 2006 - Lecture on religion and science by Dr. E. O. Wilson, the Pellegrino University Research Professor Emeritus at Harvard University. Hailed as "the new Darwin" by Thomas Wolfe, and one of "America's 25 Most Influential People" by TIME Magazine, he has twice received the Pulitzer Prize for general non-fiction. Read more...
