Welcome to the MSU Leadership Fellows Certificate Program!

The Montana State University (MSU) Leadership Fellows program is a collaborative effort among the Associated Students of Montana State University (ASMSU), the MSU Leadership Institute, and University College designed to challenge students to discover their leadership potential through course work and a variety of experiences. Equipped with critical and ethical thinking skills, these students can become agents of positive change in society.

Community/Campus Service Foundation/Capstone Leadership Electives

Of the 16 required credits of leadership-focused course work, four are the required foundational and capstone courses: Leadership Fellows I (UC 202 - 3 credits) and Leadership Fellows II (UC 302 - 1 credit). As a prerequisite to UC 302, students must fulfill a community/campus service requirement.  The remaining 12 credits need to be fulfilled from the approved list of Leadership Electives. Students may only take one course within each unique subject rubric (e.g., only one SOC course). Also, a maximum of 3 credits required in the student's major or minor may be applied toward the Leadership Electives.  The list of courses approved as Leadership Electives is also available at the Academic Advising Center. This list does change, so please ensure you have the most recent version. Additional courses may be petitioned for approval by the program committee. Petition forms are available at the Academic Advising Center.

Students interested in pursuing the Leadership Fellows Certificate must declare their interest prior to enrolling in UC 202. This declaration can be made in the Academic Advising Center in REID 418. During UC 302, students will complete an application to receive the certificate upon graduation. Upon graduating, students will receive certificates of completion and have "Leadership Fellow" noted on their academic transcripts.
