Certain items are required for membership. Every attempt is made to keep this expense to
a minimum. Most of the items are associated with our uniform. You may already own

mailed to you once you have contacted us.

  1. SHOES – All members must furnish uniform shoes. The shoes worn with our uniform are black, leather Drill Master brand shoes. It is recommended to order a 1/2 size larger than your normal show size to allow thicker socks for winter conditions. Cost is approximately $30.00.
  2. BLACK SOCKS – Bring at least 2 pairs of BLACK socks to wear as the uniform.
  3. WHITE GLOVES – It is required to have 2 pairs of WHITE, long wristed gloves. Cost is approximately $3.00 per pair.

  5. LYRES – All brass & woodwind will need this to hold your folio for rehearsals. Cost is dependent on instrument type and make.

HOUSING INFORMATION

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO MOVE INTO MY RESIDENCE HALL?

You will be able to moving into a residence hall on Sunday, August 20th. See the
PROCEDURE below for more information.

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO MOVE INTO MY OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING?

Those arrangements are left to you. Be sure to communicate with your landlord and
roommates. The Spirit of the West faculty and staff do not make arrangements for off-
campus housing.

WHAT ABOUT MEALS DURING PRESEASON TRAINING?

During the first 3 days of Preseason Training, we will provide meals for our first-year
members. In order to give students a better opportunity to get to know each other, several
of these meals during Preseason Training may be planned by The Spirit of the West
leadership.

The dorm dining halls will not be active until Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006. From
Wednesday, August 23rd forward, the meals become your responsibility. PLEASE
remember if you want to have more food than provided, feel free to bring some! It is
imperative that you eat well-balanced meals three times a day.

RESIDENCE HALL CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

Special arrangements have been made to allow students who are aspiring to be members
of The Spirit of the West to move into their rooms on Sunday, August 20th, 2006. Because this is
being done as a courtesy for The Spirit of the West, certain procedures must be followed:

  1. Contact Mrs. Kim Eggemeyer (keggemeyer@montana.edu OR (406) 994-3562)
IMMEDIATELY to arrange early dorm check-in!
  2. All members of The Spirit of the West will be checked in at their residence hall on
Sunday, August 20th, 2006. Under no circumstances will any person associated with The
Spirit of the West be admitted to the residence hall prior to that day.
  3. Since the residence hall housing staff is NOT at full strength when we begin
Preseason Training, services will be minimal. Your cooperation is expected.
Please be courteous to the staff – they are doing US a favor!
  4. It is important that you do NOT admit any non-Spirit of the West personnel to the
residence halls on Sunday. You should avoid hanging around the lobbies or front
doors as other students would like to get into their rooms early too – but they do
    NOT have permission from housing.
  5. Please be cooperative and patient! A special Spirit of the West staff member will
    help you move in.
  6. We must know into which residence hall you will be moving. Please include this
information when you return your postcard.
  7. During Preseason Training, you MAY be placed in a dorm room that is NOT your
permanent one. Do not panic! You will be able to move into your assigned
residence hall quickly prior to school officially beginning.
  8. If you have any further questions about Residential Halls or Housing, please call
    (406) 994-2661. For specific questions about Preseason Training Housing, contact
Mrs. Kim Eggemeyer (keggemeyer@montana.edu OR (406) 994-3562) in the
    department of music office.

POST SEASON PARTICIPATION:

By auditioning for The Spirit of the West, you are committing yourself to all regular
season activities AND playoffs. The MSU Bobcats fight in the Big Sky Conference (1AA Football) and always have the potential to extend their season. If we can, we’ll be
there! We expect your participation! Post-season expenses will be covered by MSU.
