Montana Chamber Music Workshop
Now in its 39th year, the Workshop was founded by Montana State University professor of music Mary C. Sanks to offer chamber music lovers the opportunity to play music together in the beautiful natural setting of the Montana mountains. The Workshop hosts nearly 100 participants including musicians from all over the United States as well as Canada and Europe.
Included in the week of musical activities are Daily coached playing assignments which vary in instrumentation and musical style. In-Depth Assignments or IDAs focus on the same repertoire with the same group of players and the same coach for several sessions during the week. These two types of assignments provide variety in music and instrumentation and the chance to polish and perfect one musical masterwork. Also included are daily music seminars offered by the resident coaches, performance forums which allow each group to present an excerpt of that day's music, and plenty of time to "free-lance' with old and new friends. Montana State University Department of Music has a world-class chamber music library that is readily accessible to Workshop participants.
Included in the tuition price is a relaxing picnic in the mountains. The faculty and staff of MCMW host a catered lunch surrounded by the beauty of Montana. This mid-week event is a chance to enjoy the company of your fellow musicians, breathe in the sweet mountain air, or perhaps take a short hike.

Montana Chamber Music Workshop is delighted to welcome back The Hyperion String Quartet to our coaching staff. This exciting ensemble, now in residence in Saratoga Springs, New York, always presents a superb evening concert and are much in demand for their lively and effective coaching. Please visit their web site at www.hyperionquartet.com to learn more.
Anchoring the woodwind coaches will be the Gallatin Woodwind Quintet, an ensemble-in-residence at MSU that is well-known throughout the Northwest for their innovative programming. Click here to learn more about the Gallatin Woodwind Quintet.
During the week our participants are treated to two full evening concerts by our resident artist /coaches, including both a string quartet concert and a concert of mixed chamber music works. In addition, the coaches will present informational seminars, and will offer the opportunity for private lessons during the workshop. Along with the personnel in the above ensembles, MCMW is expecting the following coaches/guest artists for 2008: Kenneth Christensen, piano, Michael Certalic, violin, Margaret Miller, viola, Rebecca Hartka, cello, Robin Parkinson, bassoon, Jeff Vick, percussion, & Altus Flutes artist, Phyllis Louke.
