The service sector is the largest growth area of the US economy. To help with this growth,
engineering problem-solving, techniques, and tools can have a significant impact in the
development of usable services in areas such as healthcare, transportation, financial services,
entertainment and hospitality sectors. In fact, these same engineering approaches and methods
can be used for humanitarian purposes in crisis relief and economic development. This emphasis
area is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, skill set, and tools to build a career and
