MSU Affiliated Campuses
On January 21, 1994, the Montana Board of Regents of Higher Education voted unanimously to restructure the Montana University System. Under the plan, Eastern Montana College (Billings), Northern Montana College (Havre), and the vocational-technical centers in Great Falls and Billings were consolidated with Montana State University in Bozeman on July 1, 1994. The university operates under a President at Montana State University-Bozeman with a chief executive officer at each of the affiliated campuses
As part of the consolidation process, the Regents assigned new names to all units. Montana State University-Bozeman is the home campus for Montana State University, with the following affiliates:
Montana State University-Billings is a comprehensive, public regional master's degree granting institution. Located in Billings, Montana, a city of 100,000, MSU-Billings enrolls over 4,200 undergraduate and graduate students, including nearly 500 at its two-year College of Technology.
Montana State University-Northern is a regional public institution awarding degrees at the associate, bachelor's, and master's levels. Located in Havre, Montana, a community of over 10,000, MSU-Northern enrolls approximately 1600 students, with an additional 200 at its Great Falls branch campus.
Montana State University-Great Falls College of Technology is a public two-year college. Located in Great Falls, Montana, a city of over 56,000, the College of Technology enrolls approximately 2000 students throughout the year in its two-year degree programs and general education transfer program.
Since the consolidation, the MSU campuses have worked to develop a more closely integrated structure of administration, policy, and collaboration in academic and student support. The campuses now have common admissions, an integrated system of libraries, an integrated system of administrative computing and software, and collaborative programs for on-campus and off-campus course delivery. Montana State University is both a singular integrated institution and a family of distinct campuses.
