Research Summary

Dr. Jelinski has published scholarly articles on a variety of subjects such as: The design of academic review procedures, The Spanish subjunctive, Bilingual Education, and Language and ethnic conflict. He has also published studies on the works of major literary figures including Ignacío Aldecoa, Gabriel García Marquez, Miguel Delibes, Miguel de Unamuno and Graham Greene. Several of his studies have been cited in scholarly publications and have been written in Spanish. Three of his studies have been published as book chapters. He has been a book reviewer for Hispania for many years and has published approximately thirty book reviews in this and other scholarly journals. In addition, Dr. Jelinski completed another study on the Spanish novelist Ignacio Aldecoa which was published in the December, 2002 issue of the Journal of Iberian and Latin American Studies (School of European Studies, University of Wales, Cardiff). Most recently, his study "Monsignor Quixote: Graham Greene Rewriting Unamuno Rewriting Cervantes" was included as a chapter in the book The Hispanic Connection:  Spanish and Spanish-American Literature in the Arts of the World; Praeger, 2004 (111-121). This volume includes studies by prominent scholars such as Dale Wasserman, author of the plays "Man of La Mancha" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest."  Dr. Jelinski has been recently invited to present a scholarly paper at a national conference celebrating the 400th anniversary of the publication of Don Quixote.  The conference will be held in November, 2004 at Hofstra University.

Dr. Jelinski has also given fee workshops and presented scholarly papers on a variety of literary and linguistic topics at state, regional and national conferences. During his service at MSU he has been the Principal Investigator or Grant Coordinator for over $64,000.00 in Grants. All of the grants were written for the purpose of improving foreign language education in Montana.
