Job Description:

Job Purpose

Manufacture Kennon products using sewing equipment according to Kennon standards and quality principles. Sewing Machine Operators may also be assigned the role of Manufacturing Representative for product lines, specific products, or processes. Manufacturing Representatives assist in the definition, development, and documentation of standard work instructions, and promote standard production practices.

 Job Duties/responsibilities (Sewing Machine Operator)

  • Prepare and maintain machinery by changing needles, thread and bobbins, oiling as necessary, and securing attachments.
  • Operate industrial sewing machines including single needle sewing, serging, tacking/boxstitching and binding.         
  • Sew together cut materials to manufacture a wide range of products (aircraft covers, Ligature-resistant Doors, etc.)
  • Perform various detail tasks - hemming ends, joining pieces, topstitching, etc.                                         
  • Follow pattern directions, standard work, and demos to produce conforming and quality products.                           
  • Fulfill demand based on customer requirements as communicated on sales orders.                                              
  • Build quality into product; verify conformity and quality throughout production process.                                              
  • Identify and correct nonconforming items; ask for assistance and clarity as needed.                                            
  • Report instances of rework & scrap; quarantine nonconforming materials; track time on rework efforts.                
  • Work as team member on large volume production efforts; work in flow when appropriate; recommend process improvements.
  • Identify areas of opportunity; Work with Design Engineers to improve product manufacturability.                               
  •  For special projects, coordinate the effective and efficient execution of sales orders, as assigned/delegated.             
  • Production Supervisor(s)/delegated special project assignees may determine the assignment of process steps; however, the process is still regulated by standard work and the Manufacturing Representative (see below).

Job Duties/responsibilities (Manufacturing Representative)

  • For undocumented products or processes in queue for standard work - consider various production techniques, identify (and apply) existing standard practices, evaluate "best way" processes and those achievable by other operators.
  • Demonstrate production process under observation by Standard Work Author for documentation and definition.
  • Verify that standard work practices are current and accurate, following the best available manufacturing process.
  • Promote the use and adherence to standard work practices.
  • Act as a liaison between manufacturing and Standard Work Author for changes and process improvement recommendations to standard work.
  • Answer questions and determine standards related to manufacturing processes/products as assigned
