Paul D. Miller, aka DJ Spooky Presents: SOUND UNBOUND (Lecture Presentation)

In this lec/dem, multimedia artist, composer and writer Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky expands the concept of DJ with elements of data, conceptual art, collage, loops and layers. Each ensemble will perform several short selections of music based upon the theme of "Cobwebs." The concert will also feature the MSU Brass Choir and introduce the newly formed "Dixie Cats" Band.

MSU Symphony Orchestra Concert

Under the direction of Tobin Stewart, MSU professor of music, the concert will feature videography accompanied by music. The concert will include a movement of Aaron Copland's "Tender Land Suite" that bridges John Harmon's "Bison: Sacred Nomad of the Great Plains" and Steven Faux's concert suite written for the MSU Symphony Orchestra from his soundtrack to the BBC "Earthflight" film.

Multimedia Series

A concert of audiovisual, interactive and ambisonically-spatialized (3-D audio) works for digital media, iOS controllers and acoustic instruments - with guest artist Josh Parmenter. Parmenter is a composer, performer and software developer based in the Seattle area. His applications include a number of controllers for computer music interaction and interfaces for public performance art that use location-based tracking.? Josh will be giving a presentation/lecture directly following the Multimedia concert in Reynolds Recital Hall (ca. 4:15 PM).

MSU One o'clock Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble

The MSU Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble are putting a joint concert with guest artists Steve Houghton, drums Bob Bowman, bass and Craig Hall guitar.
These legendary guest artists will share the stage with the MSU Percussion Esnemble on the first half playing Houghton's arrangements of some Pat Metheny tunes, and coming back for an encore set with the One O'Clock Jazz Band playing "Do It Again" arr. by Fred Strum, "Dangerous Curves" arr. by Matt Harris, "Caiziba" arr. by Steve Allee, and "Early Autumn" arr. by Manny Albam.

The International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) is a global network of women and men working to increase and enhance musical activities and opportunities and to promote all aspects of the music of women. The IAWM builds awareness of women's contributions to musical life through publications, website, free listserv, international competitions for researchers and composers, conferences, and congresses, concerts, the entrepreneurial efforts of its members, and advocacy work. IAWM activities ensure that the progress women have made in every aspect of musical life will continue to flourish and multiply.

James Reid - Guest Artist Recital

Over the past twenty-five years James Reid has performed hundreds of times throughout the United States and Canada appearing in concerts for guitar societies, colleges and universities, and for arts councils. He has also been a featured artist at numerous festivals including the Sun Waves Guitar Festival in Miami, the Portland Guitar Festival, Guitar New Orleans, The Guitar and Lute Institute, the Elkhorn Festival, and the Fairbanks Summer Music Festival. In addition, his music has been aired on many public radio and television broadcasts in the west. Mr. Reid is also the founder of the Northwest Guitar Festival and the director of the guitar program at the University of Idaho.
