MSU SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Orchestral Studies at Montana State University offers performance opportunities to music majors and non-majors. An auditioned ensemble, the “MSU Symphony” is a challenging full-symphony-orchestra with no less than two concerts each semester. 

The MSU Symphony Orchestra fosters the highest performance standards while offering its members the opportunity to expand their technical, intellectual, and musical horizons.

The MSU Chamber Orchestra was first established in 1969 and has performed regularly for the past 37 years.  The name was eventually changed to “University Orchestra” and finally to its current name, MSU Symphony Orchestra – defining its size. 

The orchestral program at Montana State University has had five conductors since its inception and has performed symphonic literature of all genres including new music, jazz and pop. 

Its current Music Director, Shuichi Komiyama is a highly respected international orchestral and wind conductor, who is an Emmy winning composer and a respected jazz pedagogue.

In 2008, the “MSU Symphony” will begin its recruiting campaign, which will take the ensemble to regional Montana and surrounding states as well as a tri-nation tour of Southeast Asia (Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam) in 2009.  Other tours planned in the next five seasons are: performances in New York, Hawaii, Hungary, Argentina and regional music conferences and festivals.
