MSU Announces Annual Concerto Competition Dates
MSU Symphony is proud to announce the 23rd MSU Concerto/Aria Competition to be held on November 17, 2007 (Preliminary Round). The Final Round will take place on 27 January 2008 and the winners will perform with the MSU Symphony, conducted by the MSU Symphony Assistant Conductors on 19 April 2008. All “auditioned large ensemble” music majors and non-music majors are invited to apply (applied studio required). Applications are available in the MSU Music Department Office – due October 15th.

Let's say that today is the first day of orchestra. You just received your parts to the Egmont Overture and possible the Eighth Symphony. You struggle through the sight-reading and afterwards feel remorse that you did not know the piece. You then practiced these two pieces for an hour each day, yet you find that you still get lost during rehearsal. For some reason, counting at the 3/4 Allegro section gets tricky. You feel even worse than before, like there is no hope, and you think about quiting your instrument and applying for a job at McDonald's, where counting rests is not an issue.
