Our students stay busy working to master music theory, music performance, music technology and general studies. But that doesn't mean we don't get to have a little fun now and then. Here's a brief look at some of our favorite Music Tech stories and personalities:
Year 0 - The Guinea Pigs
Our core group of the first Music Tech majors began classes in Year Zero (2006-2007). They are known as the Guinea Pigs, because they're taking new classes the first time they've ever been taught at MSU. On a field trip expedition to record interesting sounds at Giggles Toys here in Bozeman, the Year Zero group found and liberated their new mascot, Mr. Rogers the stuffed guinea pig.
Year 1 - The Ninja Monkeys
The first-year Music Tech majors from 2007-2008 have been so talented, energetic, and enthusiastic that the energy level around the music department since their arrival has been through the roof. You might even say the music building has become a bit of a zoo. During a particularly spirited class session when they suggested Year of the Ninja for their mascot, Prof. McGarity decided it was more like Ninja Monkeys!
Year 2 - The Space Dolphins
Class: We had an idea for our mascot - We could be the Spinning Beach Balls of Death!
Kristi: Sorry, that's not an animal. But wait - there are animals that could BALANCE spinning beach balls of death!
Class: What, like a seal or something?
Kristi: No, I mean like dolphins.
Class: Space dolphins!
Kristi: Hmm, that's not bad. . .
Year 3 - The Raging Platypuses
Yes, this is what happens when you let them pick their own mascot...
Year 4 - The Battle Cattle
Mooooooooooooooo. . .
Year 5 - The Abominable Snowbots
The few, the proud, the Abominable Snowbots.
