The Montana State University women's alpine and nordic ski teams
will compete at the Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Invitational,
hosted by the University of Colorado this weekend.
The alpine events will take place at Eldora Mountain Resort/La
Belle Dame, beginning with the women's giant slalom, Friday, Jan.
26 at 9 a.m., followed by the slalom race, Saturday, Jan. 27 at 9
a.m. The nordic competition will be held at the Eldora Nordic
Center. The women's 10-kilometer skate race will be held Friday,
Jan. 26 at 11:30 a.m., with the women's mass start 10-kilometer
classic event slated for Saturday, Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m.
"We're getting to that time in the season when we need to start
putting some good finishes together," said MSU head coach Dan
Brelsford. "I think Suzan (Dole) is pretty solid with a couple of
12th place finishes. We need to get Kristen Ellena up with Dole,
and three underclassmen, Jamie Holts, Lynsey Dyer and Briana
Masche, need to fill the hole left by the injury to Chelsea
Sullivan (broken ankle).
"The nordic team is having one of its best seasons in the history
of the program," Brelsford said. "We might have the most talented
nordic racers that have ever competed at MSU."
The nordic team has had solid performances from three racers this
season; including Maria Kalnaes, Marianne Magnus and Adinda
Demske. Kalnaes and Magnus have recorded top ten finishes this
season.
"The nordic team will be looking to better their position,"
Brelsford said. "At this point in the season, they need to focus
on maintaining their level of performance."
Also competing at the Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial will be the
University of Colorado, Denver University, the University of
Utah, the University of New Mexico, the University of
Alaska-Anchorage, the University of Nevada and Western State
College.
