Spring enrollment at Montana State University-Bozeman has
increased in both headcount and FTE over the same semester a year
ago, MSU officials said today.
Enrollment on the Bozeman campus is 11,108, up 105 students from
last year's 11,003 spring headcount. Historically, spring
semester enrollment at MSU is less than fall semester and this
year is not an exception. A record 11,761 students enrolled at
MSU last fall.
The FTE, or full time equivalents, is also up from a year ago.
This year there are 9,528 FTE units enrolled at MSU for spring
semester, up about 30 FTEs from last spring.
The FTE number is important because it is the figure used in
state funding formulas and also indicates how many enrolled
students are taking a full time credit load, or at least 15
hours. The FTE is found by totaling the number of credit hours
taken by all students enrolled at MSU and dividing by 15 credit
hours.
"We're pleased that our spring enrollment has gone up," said
Allen Yarnell, MSU vice president for student affairs. "We hope
to continue that trend by aggressively recruiting in state and
out of state. And, we are working very hard in the area of
retaining the students that are here."
According to MSU records, the percentage of in state and out of
state students is holding steady. About 28 percent of the current
student population is from out of state, the same as in the fall.
