Bobcat Men's Tennis Team At Montana

The Montana State University men's tennis team will travel to Missoula, Friday, March 23 to face intra-state rival Montana at 1 p.m., at the Lindsay Tennis Courts. The Bobcats will also face the University of Idaho, Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m.

"We're looking forward to the challenge ahead of us this weekend," said MSU first-year men s coach Mike Phillips. "After our spring-break trip last week, we're now focusing our attention towards the Big Sky Conference men's regional and league championships."

The Bobcats went 0-3 on their trip last week, losing to BYU-Hawaii (6-1), Hawaii (6-1) and Utah State (4-3). However, MSU sophomore Lukasz Mazur posted an impressive 3-0 mark at No. 2 singles and combined with senior Chris Tokar at No. 2 doubles, where the tandem went undefeated with a 2-0 ledger.

On the season, Mazur, a native of Zielora Gora, Poland, has posted an 11-3 record at No. 2 singles and a 6-8 mark in doubles action. MSU s No. 1 doubles combination of Thijs Goossens and B.J. Hauck have also notched a winning record with an 8-6 mark.

"Lukasz is playing incredible tennis," Phillips said. "He is definitely one of the top players in the conference and we'll need him to continue his success and have everyone else step-up to his level of play."

The meeting between the Bobcats and Grizzlies will be the second of the season. Last month, MSU downed Montana 5-2 in the Bobcat Tennis Center. In the match, MSU captured the doubles point as well as the top four singles positions.

The MSU women's tennis team will be idle this weekend.
