The Montana Horticulture Hotline is now available.

The hotline is funded by Montana State University Extension Service. The service is toll-free inside Montana and will be available between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. until Oct. 1. The statewide number is 877-476-8477. In the Bozeman calling area, people should call 994-7268.

During those times, callers will be able to ask an MSU specialist questions regarding Montana horticulture and gardening. Callers are asked to limit questions to horticultural topics.

"We get all kinds of calls, " says Martha Mikkelson, a diagnostician in the Plant Disease Clinic at MSU. Mikkelson is one of those people who answers calls.

She says that last year callers asked questions from "How do I control bindweed in my rock garden?" to "How do I control mushrooms that push up through my driveway asphalt?"

The hotline will continue through Oct. 1, but is expected to be busy. If you cannot get through, consider calling your local MSU Extension Service agent.

The hotline is an adjunct to the many Extension horticultural publications available free or for a low cost. An Extension publications catalog including horticulture publications can by ordered for free by calling (406) 994-3273. The publications in the catalog can be ordered through your local MSU Extension office or by mailing a request to MSU Extension Publications, P.O. Box 172040, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT 59717.
