Judi Haskins, an academic advisor with Montana State University's Academic Advising Center, has been selected to serve as one of 10 mentors who will work with the National Academic Advising Association's class of emerging leaders for 2012-14.

"This is very much a grassroots organization and not leadership heavy," Haskins said. "So, it's important for us to engage in working with the next generation of academic advisors."

The Emerging Leader program is a two-year program in which Haskins will work closely with an emerging leader to help that person gain the skills, experiences, and knowledge needed to move into a leadership position in in the national organization.

She and her mentee will develop a plan for their involvement with National Academic Advising Association, based on interests, expertise, and goals for the future.

Haskins has been working as an academic advisor at MSU eight years, six of those at the Academic Advising Center. She has been a member of the National Academic Advising Association for the entirety of her 12 years in the profession. Haskins is also chair of the organization's northwest region.
