Montana State University has hired Dewitt Latimer as its new chief information officer to provide oversight, management and strategic planning for the university's information technology infrastructure.

Latimer is currently founder and senior principal of Techwitt LLC, an information technology consulting firm with an emphasis in higher education. Previously, Latimer held IT leadership and management positions at the University of Notre Dame, the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, Kent State University and Clemson University. He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Tennessee.

As CIO, Latimer will be a member of MSU's senior leadership team and report to MSU President Waded Cruzado and Provost Martha Potvin. He will start June 25.

Latimer was selected from three finalists after a national search. The search was initiated after a 2011 consultant's report recommended MSU have a full-time CIO to guide the university's information technology infrastructure.
