Toby Day, Extension horticulturist and Montana Master Gardener program coordinator, will be the guest specialist at the booth on June 16. He will highlight best trees and shrubs for the home landscape as well as discuss what to do about mountain pine beetle and other pests. Day can assist with tree and shrub identification and answer questions about cultivars pertinent to our planting area. Each week, the featured specialist will also provide free MSU Extension factsheets and MontGuides.
"People are encouraged to bring plant or insect samples to the booth for diagnosis or identification," said Day. "If you want to know what will grow in your area, or what plant is invading your garden, pasture or cropland, bring a sample of it to the Gallatin Valley Farmers Market this Saturday," Day said.
The Gallatin County Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. through noon on Saturdays through Sept. 8. There will be no market on July 21.
