After 38 years, an estimated one million travel miles, and connections that number in the thousands, Jaynee Drange Groseth - the long-time director of the Montana State University Alumni Association - is retiring effective July 1.

On Thursday, the MSU Alumni Foundation announced that Groseth will retire from her position and, in recognition of her long service, be given the title president emerita of the MSU Alumni Association.

"All across Montana and even in faraway states, MSU alumni and friends know the name 'Jaynee Groseth'," said MSU President Waded Cruzado. "Throughout her career, she has been an exceptional advocate for MSU and laid the foundation for so many of the university's current successes."

Groseth, a native of Billings, served as executive director of the Alumni Association from 1992-2008 and assumed the role of president in 2008 and through the 2012 formation of the MSU Alumni Foundation. She joined the MSU family in 1975 as the assistant director of admissions and became director in 1982. Over the course of her career, Groseth worked tirelessly to develop new initiatives, preserve MSU traditions, and entice countless students and alumni to connect with MSU. Under her leadership, the MSU Alumni Association has grown to record levels in the Big Sky Conference.

"Simply put, Jaynee embodies the pride, loyalty and enthusiasm felt by MSU's more than 100,000 alumni," said Michael Stevenson, president and chief executive officer of the MSU Alumni Foundation. "She is synonymous with the Alumni Association and has been a stalwart supporter of MSU. The depth and breadth of her impact is immeasurable."

MSU has also played a large part in Groseth's personal life. She received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from MSU and met and married her husband, Dr. Rolf Groseth, at MSU. Dr. Groseth is the chancellor of MSU-Billings.

"I am so proud to have graduated from MSU and to have represented the university for more than 38 years," Groseth said. "MSU and the Alumni Foundation are on such a great trajectory, it will be fabulous to cheer them along."

As president emerita of the MSU Alumni Association, Groseth will develop a history of the MSU Alumni Association, document MSU's traditions, and serve as a volunteer for key alumni-related initiatives.

"The last 38 years have gone by in a heartbeat," said Groseth. "But I'm just retiring, not disappearing. I still feel an obligation to give back for all that MSU has given me. It really has been an honor to serve."
