BOZEMAN– Montana State University Extension has hired John Culbertson as its new Fire Services Training School statewide director. The Fire Services Training School (FSTS) is a state-level agency associated with MSU Extension charged with providing professional development for community fire and rescue services.

Culbertson has been most recently a shift captain and training officer/captain with the Central Valley Fire District in Belgrade, Montana. He previously worked as a hazardous materials training specialist with the Fire Services Training School, where he has been instrumental in training fire departments across Montana.

“I am delighted that John has decided to return to us at MSU Extension FSTS as we continue our tradition of extraordinary training programs to help fire services in Montana succeed,” said Jeff Bader, executive director of MSU Extension. “I am confident that John will do a superb job as he continues to build FSTS’s reputation as a customer-oriented training school.”

Culbertson will take over from Steve Harada, training officer with FSTS, who held the interim director position after the 2012 retirement of longtime director Seldon “Butch” Weedon.
