T-shirts go on sale July 15 for the 2014 Montana State University Gold Rush game to be played Sept. 6 against Black Hills State in Bobcat Stadium.

Gold Rush, which kicks off the Bobcat home football season and inspires fans to showcase their Bobcat spirit by filling the stadium in a sea of gold, is “A Blue and Gold State of Mind.”

Dave Simon, a lifelong Bobcat fan from Billings who attended MSU from 1994-1997, won the inaugural Gold Rush T-shirt design contest.  Simon said his design was inspired by the new athletic department campaign, “Blue and Gold State of Mind.”

“Having a Blue and Gold State of Mind is the bond I share with other ‘Cat fans,” Simon said. “It’s the rush I get when 20,000 of my closest friends cheer at the same time. It’s about talking about the Bobcats when I see other fans in the grocery store. It’s being a fan through thick and thin.”

Scott Jurgens, associate athletic director of marketing and operations for Bobcat Athletics, said Simon’s winning entry was one of dozens of submissions and he will receive $250 in prize money.

“Once again the Bobcat fans stepped up with an overwhelmingly positive response,” Jurgens said. “We received design submissions from all over Montana.

“We’re happy the fans are so engaged in Gold Rush and are thrilled to release the new design today.”

Beginning July 15, limited edition Gold Rush T-shirts will be available for purchase for $12 at Universal Athletic stores in Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell, and Missoula and at the MSU Bookstore in Bozeman.
