BOZEMAN—Montana State University Continuing, Professional and Lifelong Learning will offer a four-week course on retirement planning and investing. The course will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 18 - Nov. 8. Parking is free on campus after 6 p.m.

The course is for people who are planning to retire anywhere from the near future to 20 or more years from now. Topics addressed will include strategies for dealing with the current investment landscape, which is unique in history, with interest rates close to 0 percent and the risk embedded in record high stock, bond and real estate prices.

In four two-hour sessions, instructor Ed Tompkins, a certified financial planner, will cover topics such as 10 ways to reduce housing costs; how to measure the current start point and direction to determine if an individual will arrive on time at his or her retirement destination; and the role of precious metals and real assets in preserving wealth.

Tompkins, a retirement and asset management specialist, taught retirement planning and investing for the University of Washington and the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. He began his career in financial services in 1991 in Seattle after serving four years as an Army officer.

The course is $79. Two people can register at the same time for $129. Register online at http://eu.montana.edu/noncredit/ or call Continuing, Professional and Lifelong Learning at 406-994-6550.
