Opening ceremonies for the 2009 Special Olympics Montana State Summer Games will be 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wed., May 13 in the MSU Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

The ceremonies will feature country-western musician Charley Jenkins and his seven-piece band. The event is free and open to the public.

The games are expected to draw 1,000 athletes and 450 coaches from 72 teams and will run through Friday, May 15 at MSU.

The entire Marga Hosaeus Fitness Center will be closed May 13-15, except for Special Olympics events.

Competition will occur in 14 different sports over the three-day period. Events include athletics (track & field), bowling, equestrian, bocce, gymnastics, cycling, golf, power lifting, soccer, aquatics, triathlon, horseshoe pitching and kayaking. Additionally, motor activities training for lower functioning athletes will be offered in conjunction with the Special Olympics all-inclusive participation mission.
