MSU grad student produces and directs ballet premiering May 14

"The First Day," a multimedia ballet that brings together an array of international talent, including MSU graduate student Jennifer Grace, will make its international debut at 7 p.m. Friday, at the Emerson Center for the Cultural Arts in Bozeman.

The ballet is written by Patrick Leonard, composer and producer of Madonna, Pink Floyd, Elton John and Michael Jackson, and his daughter, Jessica. Following the ballet,Patrick Leonard and popular singer Jenni Fleming, who is an MSU graduate, will take the audience on a multi-media musical journey of Leonard's musical career.

Grace is a student in MSU's Science and Natural History Filmmaking graduate program. She won a national Student Emmy last year for her film, "Frog, Chemical, Water, You. Grace said she met Leonard last year while working at the Jim Henson company during an Emmy Mentorship program in Los Angeles last summer.

Terry Beubois and MSU's Creative Research Lab and Tom Watson, professor in MSU's School of Film and Photography, are also working on "The First Day" project.
