The Festival Strings of Bozeman, an orchestra made up of 15 high school-aged string players, will perform a series of free concerts in Bozeman, Paradise Valley and Yellowstone National Park Aug. 11-15, beginning with a performance at Bozeman's Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11.

The orchestra's 2010 summer tour also includes appearances at Aspen Pointe Retirement Home in Bozeman, Chico Hot Springs, Old Faithful Inn, Huntley Lodge and Summit Hotel in Big Sky, and Reynolds Recital Hall on the Montana State University campus.

The students of the Festival Strings assemble each summer in Bozeman as part of the Summer Youth Orchestra Workshop, a 10-day performance workshop. The workshop is organized and directed by Johan Jonsson, MSU professor of music and leader of the String Orchestra of the Rockies, and Lisa Shull, orchestra teacher in Great Falls and violist in the String Orchestra of the Rockies.

The orchestra members, representing seven Montana cities, will spend several days on the MSU campus preparing a program of repertoire from the Baroque period to the 20th century (Vivaldi, Bartok, Mozart, Warlock, Olsson, Marshall and Grieg), before embarking on their concert tour.

The Summer Youth Orchestra Workshop is presented in collaboration with MSU's Department of Music and the Extended University. It is also supported by donations from the Thunderbird International Corporation, MSU, the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra, and a number of businesses and individuals.

While all performances by the Festival Strings of Bozeman are free to the public, donations will be accepted.
