Whit Connolly of Ennis, a senior in graphic design at Montana State University, has won a summer internship at People Magazine as one of the top five finishers in a student design competition sponsored by the Society of Publication Designers.

Connolly's whimsical design for a four-page layout about how to make finger puppets like a pro won an honorable mention in the competition, announced recently in New York City.

Senior MSU graphic design students competed against students from top colleges and universities from across the country. The local competition was organized by graphic design professor Jeffrey Conger and adjunct instructor Jason Johnson.

Connolly is the latest of several MSU seniors who have placed in the national competition in the last five years. In 2008, Paul Johnson received an internship at National Geographic Adventurer and in 2007 Allison Mclean was awarded an internship at Marie Claire magazine.
