Missoula is a small city with a metropolitan population of about 74,000, and
it is located 70 miles south of the beautiful Flathead Lake near the convergence
of all western Montana's great river systems. Missoula is a unique city for
its size and location. Residents have easy access to four nearby wilderness
areas including the famed Bob Marshall and the Selway-Bitteroot, the nation's
largest. Glacier National Park is only two and a half hours away and Yellowstone
is four hours. Excellent skiing, both downhill and cross country, are at Missoula's
doorstep. Traditionally known as Montana's cultural center, residents can enjoy
theater productions, symphony and string orchestras, and sporting events in
addition to University-related activities. Many writers and artists make their
home in Missoula.
