The College of Nursing Block Program has awarded two block grants to the following recipients. The funding for these two projects started on January 1, 2004 and will end December 31, 2004. Congratulations to the College s latest Block Grant Recipients!

Fredricka Gilje, Laura Lacy, and Carol Moore (Billings Campus) have received a College of Nursing Block Grant to research Gerontology/Geriatric Issues and Trends in U.S. Nursing Programs.

Charlene Winters, Helen Lee, and Chad Ellis (Missoula Campus) have received a College of Nursing Block Grant to research Access and use of Research by Rural Nurses.

The Block Grant Program was established to encourage faculty research by making available small seed grants that, while competitive, were comparatively easy to obtain. Funds are awarded primarily to faculty members launching their research, for pilot work and for testing of protocols and measurements instruments. Occasionally, the funds are awarded to more seasoned researchers who have a particular need related to pilot work required prior to submitting proposals for large scale projects. The intent of the program is to support research that is of a quality and rigor that will have a chance for obtaining extramural funding. The College of Nursing Office of Research and Scholarship is responsible for the administration of the Block Grant Program. There are two submission deadlines for Block Grant Proposals each academic year. These are October 1 and February 1. The size of the award is based on the scope of the proposed project, the budget, and the justification of the budget, but no award can exceed $2,500. Funds are awarded for one calendar year.
