College Receives Funding for Nurse Faculty Loan Program

October 4, 2004

The College of Nursing received word on September 17th that MSU-Bozeman has been awarded almost $22,000 in federal funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Division of Nursing for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP). Full-time graduate students who complete the three newly developed teaching courses along with their FNP or CNS coursework are eligible for these loan dollars up to their full expenses each semester and up to 85% will be forgiven provided they are employed as full-time nursing faculty for four years following graduation.

Dr. Art Bangert in the College of Education, Health and Human Development here at MSU-Bozeman taught the first of the three teaching courses during Summer 2004 and Dr. Rita Cheek on the Missoula Campus is currently teaching the second of the courses that are specifically designed to help prospective faculty learn the basics of teaching, both classroom and clinical. Dr. Susan Luparell on the Great Falls Campus is scheduled to teach the final third course during Spring 2005 for the first group of FNP and CNS students who have enrolled in these courses during 2004-05.
