Kara Bakke Named CON Spirit of Nursing Nominee
February 6, 2006
The CON has chosen Kara Bakke from the Great Falls campus as our
student and she will now be considered for the national award.
She was selected from a pool of four upper division students.
Hanne Cundy from the Billings campus, Kahrin Phillips from the
Bozeman campus and Julie Christensen from the Missoula campus
were the other outstanding students.
The Spirit of Nursing Award is a national award that is given by
Army Nurse Corps in cooperation with the National Student Nurses'
Association. The award was created to promote excellence by
honoring exceptional nursing students. There is an entry form
that asks for professional involvement, leadership experience and
academic achievements. The Dean writes a statement and the
student writes an essay on "How is the Spirit of Nursing evident
in your practice of nursing?"
A committee made up of members of the ANC and the NSNA review all
of the entry forms and essays and selects the national winner.
The winner receives an engraved crystal award at the NSNA Annual
Convention. The winner's school is also presented a plaque.
