Congratulations to the Latest CON Block Grant Recipient
The College of Nursing Office of Research & Scholarship has awarded a Block Grant to Laura Larsson. Laura will be conducting a study titled "National Rented Housing and Health Policy Inventory." The funding for this project starts on January 1, 2007 and will end December 31, 2007. Congratulations to Laura!
Abstract: National Rented Housing and Health Policy Inventory

Mounting evidence implicates indoor exposures to environmental toxins as an important health determinant. Health scientists and domestic and international governments agree that regulatory policy is an important aspect of improving environmentally related health outcomes, particularly for health disparate populations. The proposed research utilizes housing counseling agents associated with the Department of Housing and Urban Development as key informants to inventory the policies which directly protect the health of renters from indoor environmental exposures. Using an electronic survey, research participants are asked to share their opinions about the adequacy of existing policies, enforcement logistics, the regulatory climate, and the potential for policy adoption in jurisdictions where no policies exist. The Healthy People in Healthy Communities theoretical framework guides this study.
